“It’s like astronaut food except… depressing.”
The Mr. E mystery from a civilian perspective.
That is actually about the best description of MREs I’ve ever heard.

I got 99 problems but the bat ain’t one.
George Zimmerman, expert killer of unarmed children, posted this on the front page of his website, over the American Flag.
“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil, is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke.”
Mister Zimmerman, I didn’t think it…
It’s reflective of who he’s trying to get money from. I’m a gun person, with a concealed carry permit, the relevant training, and a strong belief in the right of people to be armed. I even think that “Stand your ground” laws make sense- when they’re used to provide an affirmative defense. In Court. When you’ve been arrested and charged, since that’s what we do if there’s any question about a self defense shooting. By the way, SYG doesn’t even apply in this case, according to anything I’ve seen, heard, or read- it doesn’t protect you if you initiate the confrontation; you don’t get to start a fight, pull out a pistol because you’re getting your ass kicked, and then call self defense after.
He’s not trying to get money from me; I have very little sympathy for someone who decides to do the police’s job with no badge, no training, and no reason. Most people of similar beliefs also have no interest in helping him.
He’s aiming for the racists; the folks who mock the family, and look for any reason to explain his actions away. And for that, he’s even worse than he was before.
THE. BEST. THING. EVER. AT .WONDERCON. 2012
I am disappointed I did not see this while I was there.

At one point, we had something called a Wonder Ball. It was basically this— but round, and i don’t remember what sort of toy was in it before they moved to little hard candies.
I haven’t seen them in AGES though.
I have no source to verify this but was told they were banned in the US as a choking hazard. I wonder if World Market carries them?
My German Teacher in High School would give all of her seniors one on their last day in her class. Sort of a, Welcome to adulthood, son’t forget the fun stuff present. Oh, Frau Gross, i wonder where you are these days.

tumblinwithdesty replied to your post: The thing with THG is though it has all the qualities and impact that most epics do it lacks the legacy for now but i think i can see a bunch of remakes in the future or many more re releases maybe even like what what happened with the hobbit…
The books do continue from there, and expand quite a ways beyond the themes you’re hitting- but in essence, you’re right. I like them because they caution pretty explicitly about the consequences of governnment overreach, and (as a gun person) the consequences of disarming a society.
The thing that stood out to me, though, was the way the author sets the book up for literary analysis. For a Freshman English Lit teacher, these books are a perfect tool for teaching almost every Lit concept that 14 year-olds have a hard time grasping, while possessing the virtues of being written in modern vernacular, and being quite enjoyable to read. This lays the foundation for reading Hawthorne, Achebe, Atwood, Angelou, and Marquez and understanding them.
